Player Handbook

Everything you need to settle in, from your first night to your first town. Bookmark this page. It answers almost every question about how the server works.

Getting In

If you have not joined yet, the How to Join guide covers every platform step by step. The short version: Java players add play.homeycraft.com in the multiplayer menu, and Bedrock players (phones, tablets, consoles through BedrockConnect, and Windows Bedrock) add bedrock.homeycraft.com with port 19132.

A quick word on commands, since everything below uses them. A command is text you type into the chat window that makes the server do something. Open chat with T on a keyboard, or the chat button on a touch screen or controller, then type the command exactly as shown, starting with the slash, and press enter. Try it now with /rules, which shows the server rules any time.

Your First Hour

You arrive at spawn, the heart of the server. The protected area around it cannot be built in or broken, so nothing here ever gets damaged. Homey, our stone golem groundskeeper, walks his rounds nearby; right-click him to say hello. When you are ready, pick a direction and walk. The world is huge, pre-generated out to a 7,500 block radius, and everything outside the spawn area is yours to explore.

Some things worth knowing on day one:

  • There is no PvP anywhere. No one can hurt you, and you cannot hurt anyone, even accidentally.
  • The difficulty is Easy. Mobs spawn at night in the wild, but they hit gently, and zombies cannot break down doors. A wooden door and a bed make you safe.
  • The night skips when a third of the players in the overworld are sleeping. Climbing into bed is never wasted; you may drag everyone gently into morning.
  • Griefing does not stick here. Every block placed or broken is logged. If someone damages your build, report it in Discord and we roll it back exactly as it was.
  • You start with 100 Acorns, our currency. More on earning below.

Homes and Getting Around

These commands save you hours of walking:

/sethomeSaves your current spot as your home. You get three; name extras like /sethome farm.
/homeTeleports you to your home (or /home farm for a named one).
/delhome farmDeletes a saved home.
/spawnReturns you to the server spawn.
/rtpTeleports you somewhere wild, 500 to 5,000 blocks out. The fastest way to find an untouched valley.
/backReturns you to where you last teleported from, or to where you died. Your items wait on the ground where you fell, so hurry.
/tpa PlayerNameAsks to teleport to another player. They accept with /tpaccept or decline with /tpdeny.
/msg PlayerName helloSends a private message. Reply to the last one with /r hello.
/listShows who is online.
/afkMarks you as away so neighbors know you stepped out.
/sitSits you down right where you are. Stairs and slabs work as chairs too.

There is also a live map of the whole world at map.homeycraft.com. It shows the terrain, towns, and who is online where. It is wonderful for picking the valley you want to call yours.

Building a Home

Walk out past the spawn area, or run /rtp to land somewhere wild, find a spot you love, and start building. You do not need to claim anything or ask permission to build in the wild; the no-griefing rule and the block log protect you everywhere. Chop trees, dig mines, plant gardens, build the cottage.

That said, land claims through towns add real protection (only townmates can build inside a claimed town), plus neighbors, and they are the coziest part of the server:

  • Join a town. Ask in chat or Discord which towns are welcoming residents. A mayor invites you with a command, and you accept with /accept. Living in a town costs nothing unless the mayor sets local taxes.
  • Found a town. Stand where the town center should be and run /town new YourTownName. It costs 250 Acorns to found one, and each claimed plot of land costs the town a few Acorns a day in upkeep, paid from the town bank (/town deposit 100 keeps it funded). Grow it with /town claim while standing on land next to your existing claims. If you vote the full Daily Round on your first day, the 240 Acorns plus your starting 100 covers the founding cost before bed.
  • Useful town commands: /town shows your town's status, /town spawn teleports you to its center, /town leave if you move on, and /plot manages individual plots. Mayors invite with /town invite PlayerName.

A gentle suggestion for your first week: build in the wild near spawn or join an existing town first, earn a cushion of Acorns, and found your own town once 250 feels cheap.

Acorns: Earning and Spending

Check your balance any time with /balance (or /bal), send Acorns to a friend with /pay PlayerName 50, and see the richest players with /baltop.

Five ways to earn:

  1. Vote every day. Run /vote in game to get the links to our six voting sites (or use the Vote page). Each vote pays 20 Acorns, so a full round is 120 Acorns for about two minutes of clicking. Bedrock players: enter your username without the leading period; the server matches it automatically.
  2. Work jobs. Run /jobs browse to see every job (farmer, miner, builder, fisherman, woodcutter, and more), then /jobs join farmer for up to three at once. Jobs pay you Acorns automatically for doing what you were already doing. /jobs stats shows your progress, and /jobs leave swaps one out. There is an hourly earnings ceiling, so relax; grinding past it pays nothing.
  3. Sell to the market. Run /shop (or /market) and use the sell screens, or /sellgui to sell a chest's worth at once. The market buys most farmables and materials at floor prices.
  4. Trade with players. List up to five items in the auction house with /ah sell 100 while holding the item (five percent listing fee, auctions run two days, browse with /ah). Or open a chest shop at your base: hit your chest once while holding the item you want to sell, type the price in chat, and your shop is open even while you sleep. You can run up to ten.
  5. Events and seasons. Community builds and seasonal events pay prizes. Watch Discord for announcements.

Ways to spend: the /shop market (ceiling prices; player shops usually beat them), the auction house, decorative heads from /hdb at 25 Acorns each (thousands of tiny furniture and food blocks for detailing builds), and founding or supporting your town.

Chat, Discord, and Voice

Chat is global; everyone on the server sees it, and it bridges both ways with the #minecraft-chat channel in our Discord, so you can keep the conversation going from your phone. Private messages stay private with /msg.

Java players who want to talk out loud can install the Simple Voice Chat mod (Fabric or Forge, same version as the game); it connects automatically and is proximity based, so you hear the neighbors you are standing near. It is entirely optional, and Bedrock cannot use it, so nothing important ever happens only in voice.

One standard in every channel: be kind. Casual language is fine among adults, but slurs and harassment are filtered and are not up for debate.

If Something Goes Wrong

  • Someone damaged my build: post in Discord with roughly where and when. The block log shows exactly what happened, and we restore it.
  • I am stuck or lost: /spawn always works, and /home gets you back to your base.
  • I died somewhere far away: run /back to return to the exact spot. Dropped items despawn after five minutes, so hurry; there is no command that restores them, which keeps the survival in survival.
  • A command says I do not have permission: tell us in Discord; a missing permission for a normal player command is a bug on our end, not yours.
  • My question is not on this page: ask in Discord or in chat. Someone always answers, and good questions improve this handbook.
