Joining a Minecraft Server from a Console

Consoles cannot type in a server address the way PC and phones can, but there is a free, safe workaround called BedrockConnect that every crossplay community uses. You set it up once in about five minutes, and from then on joining HomeyCraft takes two clicks from a server list. This guide walks through the whole thing for Xbox, PlayStation, and Switch.

Mojang limits console editions of Minecraft to a short Featured Servers list, with no screen for adding your own server address. BedrockConnect bridges that gap: it is a free, open source project that presents a server list your console can reach, where you can save any server you like. It never asks for your account or password, and you can read its source code yourself on GitHub.

• Xbox: Minecraft, a Microsoft account, and an online subscription that includes multiplayer, such as Game Pass Core.
• PlayStation (PS4 or PS5): Minecraft and a Microsoft account signed in within the game. PlayStation Plus has not generally been required for Minecraft server play, but confirm on your own console.
• Switch: Minecraft, a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and a Microsoft account signed in within the game.

BedrockConnect works by changing one DNS setting in your console's network settings, which points the Featured Servers screen at the BedrockConnect list.

1. Open your console's network settings: on Xbox, Settings, then General, then Network settings, then Advanced settings, then DNS settings. On PlayStation, Settings, then Network, then Set Up Internet Connection, then choose your connection and Advanced Settings. On Switch, System Settings, then Internet, then your network, then Change Settings.

2. Change the DNS setting from Automatic to Manual.

3. Enter the current BedrockConnect DNS address as the primary DNS. The project lists its current addresses on the BedrockConnect GitHub page; use the one it recommends for your region.

4. Save, and restart Minecraft completely.

5. Open Play, choose the Servers tab, and join any Featured Server. Instead of that server, the BedrockConnect list appears.

6. Choose Add Server and enter the address bedrock.homeycraft.com with port 19132, and save it to your list.

From now on, joining HomeyCraft is two clicks: open a Featured Server, pick HomeyCraft from your saved list.

Yes. BedrockConnect is open source, widely used across the Minecraft community, and it never sees your login; authentication happens directly between your console and Microsoft. If you ever want to undo the setup, change the DNS setting back to Automatic and everything returns to stock.

• Multiplayer options are greyed out: check the privacy and online safety settings on the Microsoft account attached to the game; multiplayer and clubs need to be allowed.
