Can Switch and Xbox Play Minecraft Together?

Yes. A Nintendo Switch player and an Xbox player can share a Minecraft world without buying a new copy of anything, because both consoles run the same Bedrock Edition. For a private world, the two can connect through the Microsoft friends list. For a shared world that stays online around the clock, both consoles can join the same crossplay server, such as HomeyCraft, using a free helper called BedrockConnect.

The Switch player needs Minecraft, a Nintendo Switch Online membership, and a Microsoft account signed in within the game. The Xbox player needs Minecraft, an Xbox online subscription such as Game Pass Core, and the Microsoft account that is already attached to the console. Every Microsoft account is free, and one is required for crossplay on every platform.

1. On both consoles, open Minecraft and sign in to a Microsoft account when the game prompts you.

2. For a private world, add each other as friends through the in-game Friends tab, then join the world the other person is hosting.

3. To join a server instead, set up the free BedrockConnect helper once on each console (about five minutes). It works by changing the DNS setting in the console's network settings, and our console joining guide walks through every screen.

4. Restart Minecraft, open any Featured Server, and the BedrockConnect server list appears. Add bedrock.homeycraft.com with port 19132 and save it.

5. From then on, joining takes two clicks from the same list on either console.

Console editions of Minecraft only list Featured Servers, and Mojang does not allow consoles to add custom server addresses natively. That is the entire reason the BedrockConnect step exists, and it only has to be done once per console. Both consoles must be on matching Bedrock versions, so update before you play. There is no built-in voice chat, so most groups talk over Discord or a phone call. If multiplayer options look grayed out, check the family and privacy settings on the Microsoft account.
